Kafte Mezgebe's Determination to Learn

Kafte Mezgebe is a 12-year-old boy with a disability living in Koka Community. Before joining the Second Chance Learning Program, Kafte had never been enrolled in school and had very limited opportunities to access education. Despite many challenges, he remained determined to change his life through learning.

After enrolling in the program, Kafte showed strong commitment and enthusiasm toward his education. He never misses classes and actively participates in all learning activities. With the support of facilitators and a child-friendly learning environment, his literacy skills improved significantly. Today, Kafte is able to read 94 words per minute (WPM) with good accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.

His progress demonstrates not only his hard work and dedication but also the importance of inclusive educational opportunities for vulnerable children. Kafte's story is an inspiration to his community and a powerful example of how education can transform the lives of children who were once excluded from learning opportunities.

Mebrate Dereje's Journey Back to Learning

Eleven-year-old Mebrate Dereje from the Tulufera community was once at risk of missing her education entirely. Sidelined by socio-economic challenges, she spent an extended period out of school, leaving her with low confidence and an inability to read simple texts.

Her trajectory shifted when she enrolled in the Second Chance Learning Program at Tulufera School. Supported by trained facilitators, structured materials, and a child-friendly environment, Mebrate quickly regained her motivation. Today, her literacy skills have transformed remarkably. She now reads 156 words per minute (WPM) with strong fluency, accuracy, and comprehension.

Her facilitator, Ato Dejene, notes that she actively participates in class, confidently reads stories aloud, and serves as an inspiration to other out-of-school children in her community.
